General Description Released in 2000, Ikaruga was developed by Treasure. While not a direct continuation, it is considered a spiritual sequel to Treasure's Radiant Silvergun. Ikaruga is a top-view, vertical (portrait orientation) scrolling shooter.
Ikaruga uses a "Polarity" based combat system. Players switch the polarity of their ship (Light / Dark) at will. This system protects and rewards players by allowing the the collection of enemy shots for use in a super weapon as long as the player's ship matches the polarity of the enemy. The game's difficulty is also driven by this polarity system - the game drives massive amounts of both light and dark enemies on screen at once as well as boss characters that a comprised of both polarities. Players also receive bonuses for consecutive enemy kills of the same polarity, called chains.
Ikaruga runs on Sega's Naomi arcade system - the arcade companion to Sega's Dreamcast console. The game was subsequently ported to the Dreamcast, later the Nintendo Gamecube, and on Xbox Live as an "Arcade" release.
About this version... Ikaruga runs on Sega's Naomi arcade system. The Naomi hardware uses a Hitachi SH-4 128-bit RISC CPU running at 200 MHz and PowerVR 2 for its graphics subsystem. Ikaruga was released as a GD-ROM (Disc) for the Namoi system.
